Safety at feed production - representative samples for the analysis by economic pellet mill
Eingang: 28.03.2007 14:35 UhrThe grinding of pellets in order to get samples for the lab analysis of the quality is due to the size and hardness a difficult task for feed producers. Additionally, actual analytical instruments need only very small sample amounts. The NIR-analysis e.g. needs only a sample size of 3 to 5 pellets. But, that is an insufficient sample to represent a total batch. Therefore experts recommend grinding a bigger amount and dividing it by a sample divider, to have enough safety for risk prevention. This is essential, because retrace ability is of course in the complete food and feed chain one of the most significant goals. The pellet mill can grind circular, bar, pin or square shaped pellets. Sizes of 60x17mm, 20x3mm, 15x15mm as well as dog cakes and pellets with a high fat content have been tested. The resulting grist contents particles with a diameter of less than 5mm. This grist can be analysed in a great variety of different analytical instruments which were also used to determine raw materials. Trials especially with different types of NIR-units have been made. The pellet mill has a high troughput of 100 to 200kg/h and can be combined with an automatic Vario sample divider. It is possible to grind bigger samples and quickly divide it into representative sub samples, so that the results of the lab analysis really represent the total batch. The mill allows low-noise and maintenance free operation. It can be disassembled with only a few handles and can be cleaned very quickly in order to prevent carry over effects between the samples.
